Call of Duty’s new Warzone operator is played by Italian rapper Fabio Rovazzi
Entertainer says opportunity arose from his friendship with an Infinity Ward artist
Italian rapper Fabio Rovazzi has been revealed as the actor behind the next Call of Duty Warzone operator, Morte.
Morte will be added to the free-to-play shooter on Tuesday, September 8 and is described as a former member of the Italian special forces who is portrayed in-game with “an Old-West inspired look that reflects his passion for Italian-Western movies.”
In a behind-the-scenes video published by Rovazzi on Monday, the rapper explains that his role in Warzone emerged after he met Infinity Ward’s Italian technical artist Bernardo Antoniazzi at a science fiction convention.
Soon after the meeting Rovazzi – who has five Platinum singles and hundreds of millions of YouTube views – was invited to have his likeness scanned into the Call of Duty battle royale.
“Being a character in Call of Duty has always been a secret and impossible dream of mine,” Rovazzi said in a statement, “and there are no words to describe the excitement of the opportunity to give my voice and my appearance to an operator.
“I also love the character tribute to the Italian Western tradition. When I think that millions of players will be able to play with my character, I feel flattered and satisfied beyond imagination.”
Morte will be available to purchase via his own Store Bundle arriving tomorrow in the Modern Warfare and Warzone store.
A Call of Duty Warzone update released over the weekend has temporarily removed all vehicles from the game following the discovery of a game-breaking glitch.
Call of Duty Warzone Season 6 looks set to add a subway network to the Verdansk map.
Warzone Season 6 is due to start at the end of September, ahead of the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in November.
Activision has confirmed that the new premium game will share content with free-to-play Warzone, just as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare does currently.
Black Ops Cold War includes shared progression with Warzone, adding inventory items that can be used in both games. Plus, Warzone players will still have access to Modern Warfare content they earned previously, like Operators and weapon blueprints.
As previously reported by VGC, a Black Ops-themed Warzone map revamp is in the works.
