Bungie’s MOBA will take inspiration from Smash Bros, it’s claimed
Gummy Bears is now being lead by a new PlayStation Studio
Gummy Bears, a MOBA that was previously in development at Bungie before being spun-off to a new PlayStation Studio, will reportedly take inspiration from the Smash Bros. franchise.
Little is officially known about Gummy Bears, other than what can be gleaned from concept art released from the studio. Previously Gummy Bears was in development alongside Marathon, Bungie‘s shooter revival.
In a new report, The Game Post claims that Gummy Bears is described as a team-based competitive MOBA, which is planned to be aimed at a younger audience with a brighter, more vibrant art style. The game is described as having “lo-fi and cozy vibes.”
Gummy Bears will reportedly use a percentage-based health system, which is described as being similar to Nintendo‘s Super Smash Bros. franchise. It’s also claimed that players can be knocked off the map entirely, also inspired by Smash Bros.
Last year, Bungie provided an update on Marathon.
Game director Joe Ziegler discussed the state of the project in a nine-minute YouTube video released last year.
Following Marathon’s announcement in May 2023, Bungie said it would be “going dark to focus on the game… and when we come back – we’ll have gameplay to show”.
In an accompanying post on X, Bungie said that Marathon will be released for Xbox Series X/S alongside the PS5 and PC versions of the game, but that Xbox wishlisting is not yet available.
Bungie and Sony are reportedly considering a $40 price tag for Marathon.
