Breath of The Wild co-developer recruiting for new Zelda game
Monolith Soft seeking programmers, designers and artists to work on the project
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild co-developer Monolith Soft is recruiting staff to work on a new entry in Nintendo’s long-running series.
According to a translation of a post on the Japanese studio’s website, Monolith Soft is seeking programmers, designers and technical artists to work on the mystery Legend of Zelda project.
Monolith Soft also previously contributed to Wii game The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. In addition to the new Zelda title, the studio’s currently working on another project being developed by its Xenoblade team.
While it’s not surprising that Nintendo is actively working on a new entry in one of its flagship franchises, and the nature of the new Zelda project remains unclear, the news will doubtless excite fans given the series is currently riding high.
Switch launch title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time and is viewed by some as the highpoint in the celebrated series, which debuted in 1986.
It had sold some 11.7 million copies as of the end of 2018, making it the fourth-highest selling Switch game behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
In February, Nintendo announced plans to release a “modern re-imagining” of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening exclusively on Switch in 2019. The title originally released for the Game Boy in 1993.
