Borderlands 3 is the UK’s biggest physical sales launch of 2019
Game debuts at No.1 on the chart ahead of fellow new entry Gears 5
Borderlands 3 has recorded the biggest physical launch week sales of 2019 in the UK.
It took the crown from PS4 exclusive Days Gone, which released in April.
Borderlands 3 sold under half as many boxed copies as Borderlands 2 managed in 2012, GI.biz reports.
However, digital sales aren’t included in Ukie/GfK UK chart data, and they’ll account for a significantly larger percentage of the game’s total sales compared to its predecessor’s.
Gears 5, the most high-profile game yet to be made available via Xbox Game Pass, debuted at No.2 on the UK chart following a close battle with fellow new entry eFootball PES 2020.
The Xbox shooter’s physical sales were down approximately 75% compared to Gears of War 4’s launch week total in 2016. In contrast, the latest entry in Konami’s rebranded football series beat PES 2019‘s opening week sales by 18.5%.
The previous week’s best-seller, NBA 2K20, fell to fourth place on the UK chart ahead of new entry Greedfall.
Further down the chart, Daemon X Machina debuted at No.19 and NHL 20 entered at No.36.
