Bloober Team claims it’s finished making ‘shitty’ games
“We want to find our niche, and we think we found our niche”
Bloober Team has said it’s aware of the mixed reputation of some of its previous titles and that the company is done making “shitty” games.
Speaking to GameSpot in the wake of its newly announced horror title Cronos: The New Dawn, the team behind the recently released Silent Hill 2 remake said that it’s looking to shake its previous reputation and emulate the critical and commercial success of Silent Hill 2
“We want to find our niche, and we think we found our niche, so now we just–let’s evolve with it,” said co-director Jacek Zieba.
“And how that happens is more complex, but it also happens organically in a way, like with [2016’s] Layers of Fear, people in the studio were like, ‘Okay, we made some shitty games before, but we [can] evolve.”
“We gathered a team that loves horror,” co-director Wojciech Piejko added. “So I think, for us, it would not be easy to switch [to other genres], and we don’t want to.”
Bloober Team’s latest, Silent Hill 2 was released earlier this month to widespread critical acclaim and currently has a Metacritic score of 87.
VGC’s Silent Hill 2 review says the remake “proves the doubters wrong”, calling it “a faithful take on a survival horror classic”.
“Silent Hill 2 is a skilfully handled retelling of one of the medium’s most loved survival horror games,” we wrote.
“It stays faithful to the original (to a fault at times) but breathes enough new life into it to simultaneously ensure that long-time fans will appreciate the respect shown, while newcomers won’t find it antiquated.”
