Blizzard announces 3 new World of Warcraft expansions and Cataclysm Classic
The next expansion is The War Within
Blizzard announced three new World of Warcraft expansions at BlizzCon on Friday, as well as confirmation that Cataclysm will come to World of Warcraft Classic next year.
The Worldsoul Saga, which is described as an “epic story that celebrates the first 20 years of World of Warcraft and sets new foundations for Azeroth’s future”, will start with The War Within in 2024.
This will be followed by the second and third entries in the Worldsoul Saga, ‘Midnight’ and ‘The Last Titan’.
Introduced by Blizzard veteran Chris Metzen at BlizzCon, the new story arc is said to set the foundations for the future of the hugely popular MMO.
The War Within takes place in the underground kingdoms of Azeroth, where players will meet – and earn the ability to play as – the Earthen.
“Journey deep beneath the surface through the four expansive zones of Khaz Algar, the home of the titan-forged Earthen,” Blizzard said.
“Start your adventure on the Isle of Dorn off the western shores of Pandaria and descend into The Ringing Deeps. Then marvel at the brilliant sights of Hallowfall before plunging into Azj-Kahet, the high capital of nerubian society.”
The expansion will also introduce Delves, new “bite-sized” world instances players can tackle alone or with up to four friends, plus an NPC companion.
“Grow in strength as you level to 80 and earn new skills with Hero Talent trees, share progress across your family of characters with the Warbands system, and take to the skies with Dynamic Flying, now available for hundreds of existing mounts!”
World of Warcraft: Midnight will see players return to the Old World, where the forces of the Void have invaded Azeroth in an attempt to snuff out the light in the Sunwell.
Finally, World of Warcraft: The Last Titan will also take place in the Old World, this time in the winter lands of Northrend. There, players will witness the return of Titans to Azeroth and discover a vast conspiracy.
