Black Ops Cold War Season 1 previewed in ‘deep dive’ and Battle Pass videos

Treyarch and Raven show off the upcoming season of content

Activision has released several videos detailing what players can expect from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 1.

Launching on December 16, Black Ops Cold War Season 1 promises to deliver “the largest free content drop in Black Ops history”.

It will include three new Operators, five new weapons, eight multiplayer maps and a new Warzone map called Rebirth Island, among other features.

“Part prison, part chemical bioweapons manufacturing and testing facility, the entire island has dozens of locations to explore including laboratories, barracks, decontamination areas, and a hilltop prison block where unspeakable acts have been perpetrated,” Activision says of the new Warzone map.

“Expect intense, close-quarter action with a similar playstyle to Warzone’s Mini BR mode as Rebirth Island comes to Warzone. Planned playlists include Trios and Quads with a lower player count than in Verdansk, amping up the action and intensity.”

In the US, Black Ops: Cold War’s November launch was strong enough to make it the best-selling game of 2020 year-to-date based on just 18 days’ sales.

Black Ops Cold War was among the first next-gen games to retail for $70, a price increase which had “no obvious” negative impact on its performance at retail, according to NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella.

It marks the 13th consecutive year a Call of Duty game has topped the software chart in the month of its release. The second best-selling game of the year so far is 2019’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare.

Activision said in early December that Call of Duty had attracted over 200 million players and generated over $3 billion in net bookings over the past year.
