Black Ops Cold War is a ‘direct sequel’ to the original, game files reveal

A significant Call of Duty leak has revealed the first details on Black Ops Cold War, ahead of its full reveal on Wednesday.

According to info uncovered in free-to-play Warzone’s latest update (via CoDTracker and Modern Warzone), Cold War is described as “the direct sequel to the original” Black Ops and is set for release on PC, and current and next-gen consoles in November.

Cold War’s campaign will take place during the 1980s and see players battle alongside Woods, Mason and Hudson in East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey, Soviet KGB headquarters and more.

UPDATE: Black Ops Cold War has been revealed in a Warzone live event. Click the link for the full details:

“As elite operatives, you will follow the trail of a shadowy figure named Perseus who is on a mission to destabilize the global balance of power and change the course of history,” a datamined blurb reads.

“Descend into the dark center of this global conspiracy alongside iconic characters Woods, Mason and Hudson and a new cast of operatives attempting to stop a plot decades in the making.”

Alongside the campaign, players will bring a “Cold War arsenal of weapons and equipment” into Multiplayer and Zombies modes, the info states. The files also suggest that multiplayer will be revealed on September 9.

There’s little info on how the game will integrate with Warzone – and VGC understands Wednesday’s event will focus solely on Cold War’s content – but does seemingly confirm Woods as a pre-order bonus.

However, according to Modern Warzone, the game’s latest update does make reference to a new night-time mode, Zombies battle royale and more.

The full Black Ops Cold War reveal event will take place within free-to-play Warzone on Wednesday, August 26 at 10:30am PT / 6.30pm BST.

Furthermore, additional information on the Treyarch and Raven Software title will be revealed during Gamescom: Opening Night Live on Thursday, August 27.

Activision officially announced Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War last week with a teaser trailer, following a week-long alternate reality game in Call of Duty: Warzone.
