Back 4 Blood trailer reveals a card system offering ‘highly variable, customisable action’
Co-op zombie shooter shows off strategic gameplay features
Warner Bros. Games has released a new Back 4 Blood trailer designed to illustrate how customisable and replayable the co-op zombie shooter can be.
According to a press release accompanying the trailer, the game’s card system is “a new rogue-lite feature that enhances your experience with each playthrough, ensuring every gameplay session is dynamic, intense and feels unique”.
Players can select pre-made default decks or explore a range of customisation options to create a more personalised experience.

“Back 4 Blood takes advantage of an adaptive A.I. known as the Game Director, which works behind-the-scenes monitoring the actions, health, and choices of players,” Warner said.
“It responds accordingly by changing environmental conditions, adding obstacles, and unleashing special Ridden mutations through Card System modifiers known as Corruption Cards.
“Players can change up the gameplay by utilising specific cards to strategise against the Game Director, from amplifying equipment to reloading weapons, as they take on hordes of enemies in their path.”
Turtle Rock Studios revealed its Left 4 Dead spiritual successor at The Game Awards in December 2020 and launched a closed alpha test later that month.
In mid-March, the game was delayed from its previously planned June 21 release date to October 12, 2021.
An open beta test will be available this summer ahead of the title’s release for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
