‘Better eShop’ launched as an alternative to Nintendo’s online store
The ‘Better eShop’ is designed to offer Nintendo players a better shopping experience
Nintendo Life has launched an eShop alternative designed to give Switch players an improved browsing and shopping experience.
‘Better eShop’ was designed by the Nintendo-focused website in response to a number of commonly held frustrations with Switch’s online store.
“The Nintendo Switch eShop launched with the console back in 2017,” reads Better eShop’s website. “Since then there have been minimal improvements to the eShop interface and the storefront has been flooded with 1000s of new ‘games’, which could often be described as spam. It is now a chore to use with no signs of change, aside from Switch 2.”
Having asked its readers what improvements they’d like to see made to the store, the most-requested features were content filters, better discoverability, user reviews, faster loading times, a shopping cart, and music.
“None of these sounded particularly difficult to us at Nintendo Life, so we decided to build a new, better eShop ourselves,” the site explained.
The Better eShop, which was built in under a week and already offers most of the aforementioned features, links through to Nintendo’s official marketplace when users are ready to purchase a game.
“Data has been collected from various sources and is updated daily,” according to Nintendo Life. “It’s quite possible that Nintendo will start blocking us from gathering the data — but until then, we will continue to build and improve the Better eShop.”
In the near future, Nintendo Life plans to add wishlist functionality, screenshots, user reviews and more.
Nintendo will reportedly reveal its next game console, which is widely expected to be Switch 2, later this week.
