BBC iPlayer is now available on PlayStation 5
The UK streaming service finally arrives more than a year after the console launch
The BBC iPlayer has finally arrived on the PlayStation 5, more than a year after the console’s launch.
The BBC announced the news today, stating that the iPlayer app is available starting today.
Players can find it by going to the Media tab on the PS5 home screen and selecting the BBC iPlayer from the ‘All Apps’ section. This adds the iPlayer to the apps library and makes it available directly on the PS5 home screen.
The iPlayer app is already available on the PS4, but players upgrading to a PS5 found that they no longer had access to the app.
This has now changed, and PS5 owners can finally resume watching their favourite BBC shows on their console.
The BBC iPlayer app is already available on Xbox Series X and S, because it uses the same app that was available on Xbox One.
“We’re always working to make iPlayer available across as many platforms as we can, and we’re delighted to add the PS5 to the 15,000+ devices where BBC iPlayer is already available,” the BBC said in a statement.
“PS5 users will be able to watch all the best shows from the BBC, including Showtrial, gripping new drama from the makers of Vigil and Stephen Merchant’s smash hit new comedy The Outlaws, featuring an A-list cast including Christopher Walken.
“They can also enjoy the full boxset of Doctor Who – as this special series Doctor Who: Flux reaches its thrilling conclusion this Sunday, plus they can get back to nature with Sir David Attenborough’s The Mating Game, which will be available to watch on PS5 in spectacular Ultra HD, assuming their TV is UHD-capable.”
