StarCraft 2 dev David Kim’s RTS hybrid Battle Aces debuts at Summer Game Fest

Battle Aces debuted with a hectic animated cinematic trailer and gameplay reveal at Summer Game Fest 2024.

Dubbed an action-packed army vs army game, the game mixes traditional RTS gameplay with deck-building elements.

The team appears to be taking aim at the genre’s traditional complexities by working to “eliminate the tedious clicks required to play an RTS” and to have players “only experience the fun parts of playing an RTS game”.

The “RTS for everyone” hybrid from Uncapped Games and Lightspeed Studios comes from the mind of David Kim, who played a part in StarCraft 2’s release with Blizzard as Associate Game Balance Designer before working as a Senior Game Designer and, finally, Lead Multiplayer Designer on the title.

Speaking on stage, David Kim confirmed the game will begin a closed beta test that’s “coming up very soon” with sign-ups available on the game’s website with its reveal. You can wishlist it on Steam already.

Kim also held roles on the team of Heroes of the Storm and Diablo 4 before leaving the company to take up the position of Lead Designer at Uncapped Games.
