Back 4 Blood will be getting an open beta in August
The beta for Left 4 Dead’s spiritual successor will be playable on all formats
Warner Bros Games and Turtle Rock Studios‘ Back 4 Blood will be getting a pair of open betas in August.
The spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead will have a special early access beta for those who pre-order the game, followed by a general open beta for everyone.
The early access portion of the beta will be available from August 5-9. Players who haven’t pre-ordered can also register at the Back 4 Blood site for a chance to get into the early access beta, but codes for this will be limited.
Then, from August 12-16, a full open beta will be available to all players, regardless of whether they’ve pre-ordered.
Both open betas will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4 and PC, and will support cross-play and cross-gen support.
Turtle Rock Studios revealed its Left 4 Dead spiritual successor at The Game Awards in December 2020 and launched a closed alpha test later that month.
In mid-March, the game was delayed from its previously planned June 21 release date to October 12, 2021.
A trailer released last month showed off a new card system designed to make the game more customisable and replayable.
Players can select pre-made default decks or explore a range of customisation options to create a more personalised experience.
“Back 4 Blood takes advantage of an adaptive A.I. known as the Game Director, which works behind-the-scenes monitoring the actions, health, and choices of players,” Warner Bros said at the time.
“It responds accordingly by changing environmental conditions, adding obstacles, and unleashing special Ridden mutations through Card System modifiers known as Corruption Cards.
“Players can change up the gameplay by utilising specific cards to strategise against the Game Director, from amplifying equipment to reloading weapons, as they take on hordes of enemies in their path.”
