Back 4 Blood developer announces it’s ending development
Turtle Rock Studios says it’s focusing on its next game
Back 4 Blood developer Turtle Rock Studios has announced it’s ending post-release development on the Warner Games-published co-op shooter.
In a message published on its website, the studio claimed it did not have the resources to continue creating content for Back 4 Blood, while at the same time focussing on the creation of its next, unannounced game.
“Turtle Rock Studios is actually pretty small for a studio making AAA games,” it wrote. “We don’t have quite enough folks to continue working on Back 4 Blood content while we spin up another game – yes, another game!
“Given this, it’s time for us to put our heads down, get back in the lab, and get to work on the next big thing.”
Back 4 Blood will continue to operate, Turtle Rock said. The game is currently available on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers and as part of Xbox Game Pass.
Back 4 Blood launched in October 2021 and received three expansions post-release. The game’s last major expansion, Children of the Worm, released last summer with a new story campaign, character and more.
Back 4 Blood’s previous expansion, Tunnels of Terror, was released earlier in the year and featured two new playable characters – Sharice, who’s a firefighter with an axe, and Heng, who’s a “tough as nails, no-nonsense restaurateur”.
