Atari 50 is getting an Expanded Edition with 39 extra games
The new content will be available as DLC to owners of the original version
A new Expanded Edition of critically acclaimed retro compilation Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection has been announced.
The collection initially launched in November 2022 with 103 games from Atari’s history, including titles from the arcade, Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, 8-bit computer, Lynx and Jaguar eras.
A free update was then released in December 2023 which added 12 games, bringing the total to 115.
Now Atari and developer Digital Eclipse have revealed Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration Expanded Edition, which adds a further 39 games to bring the total to 154.
Atari 50 presents its games through interactive timelines, covering the history of Atari and introducing the games in chronological order.
The Expanded Edition adds a further two timelines – The Wider World of Atari and The First Console War – with new interviews, vintage ads and historical artifacts.
The Expanded Edition will be released on October 25 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PS5, Xbox One and PC.
A physical version will be released on PS5 and Switch, and a special Steelbook edition will be released for Switch containing Atari 2600 art cards, miniature arcade marquee signs and an Al Alcorn Replica Syzygy Co business card.
Players who already own Atari 50 will be able to get the extra two timelines and 39 games as downloadable content, though it’s not yet clear how much this will cost.
Last month Atari acquired the Intellivision brand, effectively ending the first console rivalry dating back to the 1970s.
The Expanded Edition’s second new timeline, The First Console War, will focus on the competition between Atari and Intellivision.
