Atari 50 adds 12 new games in an update, bringing the total to 115

Critically acclaimed retro compilation Atari 50 is getting a free update today that adds a further 12 games.

The collection launched with 103 games from Atari’s history, including titles from the arcade, Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, 8-bit computer, Lynx and Jaguar eras.

Now, in what developer Digital Eclipse says will be a number of content updates, 12 more games have been added, bringing the total to 115.

The new games are a mix of “officially released classics to player-powered homebrews, and even once-lost Atari prototypes”, and focuses mainly on Atari 2600 titles, with the exception of one Lynx prototype.

The complete list of games added in the update is as follows:

  • Adventure II (homebrew) – 2600
  • Bowling – 2600
  • Double Dunk – 2600
  • Maze Craze – 2600
  • Miniature Golf – 2600
  • MotoRodeo – 2600
  • Aquaventure (prototype) – 2600
  • Save Mary (prototype) – 2600
  • Super Football – 2600
  • Return to Haunted House (homebrew) – 2600
  • Circus Atari – 2600
  • Warbirds – Lynx

According to Digital Eclipse, more free updates are coming in the future, with “plans to include even more titles, more in-depth interviews, and more behind-the-scenes goodies from the golden age of gaming”.

Atari 50 celebrates the 50th anniversary of Atari with a series of interactive timelines, which players can read through to learn more about the company and its games.

The timelines contain photos, artwork, magazine articles, design documents, archive video footage and newly shot interviews, to give each of its 103 games context.

Digital Eclipse has adapted its interactive timeline structure to a new series called the Gold Master Series, which focuses on specific games, series or creators.

The first of these, The Making of Karateka, was released in August. In our review, we called it “a superbly curated interactive documentary”.
