Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal video is pulling in huge numbers
The Nintendo Switch reveal number has been viewed over 17 million times in less than 48 hours on its American YouTube channel, tracking ahead of PlayStation 5’s reveal in 2020.
In comparison, the official PlayStation 5 reveal trailer amassed some 13.3 million views, as of two days after its reveal in June 2020. The first teaser for the original Switch amassed 19.5m during the same two-day window, and was later delisted.
In total, the PS5 reveal trailer has been viewed some 44 million times since it was published nearly five years ago, with 1.6 million likes.
In less than 48 hours, Switch 2’s reveal has been liked nearly 1 million times, so it’s likely to clear PS5’s all-time figures in the near future. On Saturday, Switch 2’s reveal was the number one trending item on YouTube.
On X (previously Twitter) the figures are even more significant: the Switch 2 video has been viewed over 40 million times on the Nintendo of America account, and over 51 million times on the Japanese account.
According to a Bloomberg report published this week, citing analyst Robin Zhu, Nintendo has prepared to sell 20 million Switch 2 units when it releases.
In a Nintendo Switch 2 reveal video published on Thursday, the platform holder confirmed the console will launch this year, with a full reveal planned for April 2.
As expected, Switch 2 will sport a similar form-factor to the original Switch, with detachable joins – this time magnetic – and a large screen. Nintendo also showcased what appears to be a new Mario Kart game during the trailer.
Commenting on the reveal, Japan game industry consultancy firm Kantan Games’ CEO Dr Serkan Toto told VGC that shareholders appeared to be happy that previous Switch 2 leaks were true and that Nintendo was playing it safe with the new console’s design.
