Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s free Viking Age Discovery Tour expansion is out now
The educational experience is also available to buy standalone, although initially only for PC
Ubisoft has launched Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Viking Age Discovery Tour expansion.
The educational experience, which enables players to explore and interact with the history and culture of the Viking Age world, is free for all Assassin’s Creed Valhalla owners.
A standalone version of Discovery Tour: Viking Age is also available now for PC via Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store priced at £16.99, with PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Stadia and Luna releases planned in early 2022.
Designed with input from historians and archaeologists, Viking Age transforms the game’s world “into a nonviolent, educational experience that players can freely explore to learn more about the places, people, and cultures of ninth-century England and Norway”, according to Ubisoft.
However, instead of embarking on guided tours as in previous Discovery Tours Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt, Viking Age sees players assuming the roles of different characters, following their stories and completing quests.
“With our new approach, players are placed at the core of a unique interactive experience where they see history in the making through the eyes of people of the time,” said Maxime Durand, world design director at Ubisoft Montreal. “We have designed Discovery Tour: Viking Age to be both fun as a video game and effective as a learning tool.”
Discovery Tour: Viking Age features items from the collections of museums including the UK’s Hampshire Cultural Trust, Preston Park Museum & Grounds, York Archaeological Trust, and The British Library, as well as France’s Réunion des Musées Nationaux and Denmark’s National Museum.
The expansion lets players unlock 11 exclusive Assassin’s Creed Valhalla rewards, according to Ubisoft.
Discovery Tour: Viking Age is accessible from the main game’s home menu and requires Assassin’s Creed Valhalla title update 1.3.2.
