Apple has reportedly stopped production on its $3,500 Vision Pro due to lack of demand
Apple has reportedly decided to end Vision Pro production due to a high amount of unsold stock
Apple has reportedly ended production of its Apple Vision Pro headset due to low demand and a high amount of unsold stock.
Apple’s $3,500 mixed reality headset launched in the US in February 2024 and in other regions throughout the rest of last year.
According to a Financial Times report published last summer, Apple once had an internal sales target of one million units during Vision Pro’s first year on the market.
However, it was claimed that this figure had been more than halved, along with Apple’s production target for the headset, due to the complexity of its design and manufacturing difficulties.
According to The Information (via Mac Rumors) Apple reportedly ended production of the headset after it accrued enough to stock to last through what the company believes will be the end of the headset’s lifecycle.
According to the report, which cites people directly involved with the production of the components used in Apple’s headset, there are “significant” numbers of headsets sitting in inventory, which Apple hopes to sell throughout 2025.
A second-generation Apple Vision Pro is reportedly in development. However, it’s also claimed that production on the headset has stalled. Apple could release “an incremental update to the product with limited changes to its physical design,” according to The Information.
Bloomberg has also claimed that Apple plans to introduce a revision of the headset that will use Apple Intelligence, Apple’s new AI system, which was added to the iPhone recently.
