Apex Legends will hit Nintendo Switch in March, EA confirms
Game was originally scheduled for release in 2020
The Nintendo Switch version of Apex Legends will be released on March 9, 2021.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed the release date during the company’s third quarter earnings call on Tuesday, when he said that Apex Legends had 30% growth in new players, year-over-year.
The Switch port has been developed by Panic Button, the studio behind the well-received Switch ports of Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal, as well as Switch versions of Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Rocket League, VentureBeat reports.
Announced with the Steam version of Apex Legends, which arrived alongside Season 7 in November 2020, the Switch version of the game was also originally scheduled for release last fall.
However, EA delayed its launch to 2021 “in order to do justice to the game and make it into the great experience Switch players deserve”.
Developer Respawn has said the Switch version of Apex Legends will support cross-platform play and offer full feature parity with the other versions of the game.
Apex Legends Season 8, which is titled Mayhem, launched on Tuesday almost exactly two years after the free-to-play shooter debuted on February 4, 2019.
