Apex Legends Season 11 may add a new Tropic Island map, dataminers suggest
Plus, the game’s latest update includes balance changes for Seer and bug fixes
Apex Legends could introduce a new ‘Tropic Island’ map as part of its Season 11 update, dataminers have suggested.
According to dataminer Shrugtal, who previously uncovered references to Apex’s Arenas mode prior to its launch, the first reference to a new Tropic Island map was found in the game’s files back in August 2020.
Respawn previously released brand new Apex Legends maps in the form of World’s Edge in Season 3 and Olympus in Season 7, and new discoveries have suggested it could be planning to add Tropic Island in Season 11.
Fellow Apex Legends dataminer Garret first reported in July that the game files now include a set of textures for a new Trident, the hovercraft introduced alongside Olympus.
These vehicles, which are reportedly referred to as ‘Hover Vehicle Tropics’, can be differentiated from the existing ones due to the fact that they’re covered in mud.
It’s also suggested the Tropic Island map could be set on the planet Gaea and play home to Carthage spiders “as a persistent map feature and threat”.
Shrugtal claims a recent discovery in Apex Legends’ Season 10 patch is likely a reference to the implementation of AI onto the Tropic Island map on a large scale.
Apex Legends Season 10, Emergence, launched on August 3, introducing new Legend Seer, the Rampage LMG and an updated World’s Edge map.
Respawn released a new Apex Legends update on Monday which “fixes a few bugs and introduces balance changes to Seer”, according to the developer.
The studio said earlier this month that it’s still planning to release a next-gen update for Apex Legends but that it isn’t yet ready to commit to a launch window. It also confirmed that support for cross progression is coming in 2022.
