Apex Legends could slow down the release of new characters in the future

A Respawn developer has said the studio could slow down the rate at which new Apex Legends characters are released in the future.

Since the game’s release in 2019, every new season of content has introduced a new playable Legend.

But Respawn senior character designer Devan McGuire told Dexerto the studio could reach a “breaking point” where it’s no longer possible or good for the balance of the game to continue this pattern.

The greater the number of Legends, the harder it to make them “unique, without being overpowered, or too niche”, he explained.

“Whether or not that pattern continues is an ongoing discussion, and it might not be changed, but we don’t want to saturate the pool [of Legends].”

In March, over two years’ worth of new Apex Legends content was reportedly leaked from a development build. It seemingly revealed nine new Legends, the ‘Divided Moon’ map, plus fresh weapons and heirlooms.

The leaked Legends were Conduit, Scryer, Caliber, Jester, Phantom, Vantage, Uplink, Catalyst and Newcastle, the last of whom was recently confirmed as Season 13’s new hero.

Titled ‘Saviors’ and set to launch on May 10, the upcoming season of content also includes some significant changes to the game’s newest map, Storm Point.

The headline additions are a new point of interest based in and around the carcass of a giant sea monster, and a new PVE minigame involving long-dormant IMC armouries resurfaced and activated by seismic activity.

Respawn announced this week that Apex Legends Mobile will be released worldwide this month for Android and iOS devices.
