Square Enix is working on a new PlayStation 5 exclusive Final Fantasy game and is likely to reveal it at E3 next month.

That’s according to noted insider ‘Navtra’, who has a good recent track record when it comes to PlayStation and Square Enix information.

Navtra previously revealed a large portion of the announcements that would later be made at the first PS5 software showcase in June 2020 and also leaked Square Enix’s plans to release PlayStation exclusive Marvel’s Avengers DLC.

In August 2020, prior to Final Fantasy 16’s announcement, Navtra revealed the game would be a PS5 timed exclusive. The following month the game’s reveal trailer referenced a PC release, although this was eventually removed. Asked to clarify the situation, Square Enix later said: “We have no further information on if FF16 will be released on platforms other than the PS5.”

Final Fantasy 16 is currently billed as a PS5 exclusive

Square Enix was recently confirmed to be a participant at June’s all-digital E3 2021 event, and on Friday Navtra said the company could be gearing up to reveal a new PS5 entry in its long-running RPG series.

“I believe you can expect at least one more major FF announcement in addition to updates on the currently announced stuff (XVI/Endwalker/VIIR),” they wrote. “It should be a good E3 season for Square overall.”

Navtra later posted: “I don’t know their exact E3 schedule, but I’m guessing based on knowledge of what games they have in development, how far in they are, and their target release dates. So take it with a grain of salt.

“I believe we’re getting two major SE reveals this June: A PS5 exclusive FF title, and a cross-gen Eidos title.”

The most recent Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, is currently exclusively available on PlayStation consoles. The upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is also billed as a PS5 exclusive for at least six months.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has a timed exclusivity arrangement in place for Square Enix’s Forspoken too. It will be released for PS5 and PC in 2022 and will reportedly be a PlayStation console exclusive for two years.
