Another classic Resident Evil game has been rated for current-gen consoles

Resident Evil 5 has been classified for Xbox Series X/S by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB).

With a focus on co-op action gameplay rather than the franchise’s traditional survival horror elements, Resident Evil 5 was originally released for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2009.

It was rereleased for PS4 and Xbox One in 2016, before making its way to Nintendo Switch in 2019.

The game’s new ESRB rating will fuel speculation that another remaster is in the works.

Last month, the ESRB also classified Resident Evil 6 for Xbox Series X/S, suggesting both titles could be coming to current-gen consoles soon.

Resident Evil 6 was originally released for Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012. Like Resident Evil 5 (and Resident Evil 4), it was ported to Xbox One and PS4 in 2016, with graphical enhancements and all previous add-on DLC included, and to Nintendo Switch in 2019.

Over the last six years, Capcom has released full remakes of Resident Evils 2, 3 and 4, and in 2023 it said it was planning to release more series remakes.

The publisher confirmed this month that it’s ending service for Resident Evil Re:Verse. The multiplayer game and all DLC will be pulled from stores on March 3, and it will no longer be playable from June 29.
