Annapurna’s Ghost Bike is the next game from the creator of cult favourite Nidhogg

The next game from the creator of cult multiplayer game Nidhogg has been revealed.

Ghost Bike is set to be published by Annapurna Interactive, and will be released on Xbox, PlayStation and Steam in 2024, with a day one release on Xbox Game Pass.

Developed by Messhof – which was previously responsible for Nidhogg, Nidhogg 2 and Flywrench – Ghost Bike is described as a “semi-open” world adventure racing game.

“Ghost Bike puts players in the shoes of a streetwise kid from Freehub City on a mission to revive the last of the Ghost Bikes, the magical couriers who rode between the world of the living and the  orld of the dead,” the game’s description reads.

“Ride the Ghost Bike to the afterlife, and save the lost souls of Wheel World. Abandoned and forgotten, the Ghost Bike needs repair.

“Bikes need maintenance, and this one is on its last link. Beat ghosts in contests of speed and skill to win back Ghost power. Only then can you make the journey to the afterworld, and return the true spirit of biking back to Wheel World.”

According to Annapurna, players will “test [their] mettle through a variety of challenges, from pro peloton racing to back alley crits and general tomfoolery.”

They will also “encounter many facets of bike culture, bespoke spokemakers, radical roadies, troublesome tourists, badass BMX’ers, fanatical fans, super fun stunts, intrigue, adventure, and more”.

The game will include an original soundtrack by independent music label Italians Do It Better, whose artists include Chromatics, Glass Candy and Desire (though these artists aren’t necessarily confirmed to be contributing to the game).
