Animal Crossing’s next Switch update adds dreaming and backup saves
Plus firework shows to take place every Sunday
Nintendo has announced Animal Crossing: New Horizon’s second summer update, which is set to release on July 30 and add a number of new features including a backup save service.
The backup service will be available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers and allows island and user save data to be uploaded to the internet at certain times. If a player’s Nintendo Switch system is lost, damaged or stolen, they may be able to recover their progress by contacting Nintendo Consumer Support.
The update’s second new addition, dreaming, is a returning feature from the previous Animal Crossing game, New Leaf, and allows players to visit other islands as a dream.
New character Luna will allow players to share their island as a “Dream Address” which players can exchange and use to visit each other’s island in a dream. In dreams, no changes are permanent.
Finally, players will be able to experience firework shows every Sunday during August. Players can use Bells to redeem raffle tickets in the plaza to get various festive items.
The next update will be the free Autumn Update coming later this year. The first summer update added the ability to dive and more.
New Horizons released in late March alongside a special edition version of the flagship Switch console and a new coral coloured Switch Lite.
Nintendo said in May that Animal Crossing: New Horizons sales hit 13.41 million units in its first six weeks of availability, representing the best launch ever for a Nintendo Switch title.
New Horizons has already outsold all previous Animal Crossing instalments, according to the platform holder.
