‘Among Us’ McDonald’s chicken nugget sold for $100,000 on eBay

A McDonald’s chicken nugget shaped like a crewmate from Among Us has been auctioned for almost $100,000.

The piece of chicken fetched $99,997 (about £70,800) on eBay when the auction closed on Friday morning following 184 bids.

According to the seller, the “used” nugget came from a BTS Combo meal.

“Item will be Frozen and then Air sealed to ensure freshness with secure shipping method,” the eBay listing said.

“This food product has an average expiration of about 14 days and will be delivered prior to expiration.”

Among Us, which encourages players to collaborate or deceive each other in an online murder mystery, was released for mobile devices in June 2018 and for PC in November of the same year.

It had roughly half a billion monthly active users in November 2020, making it “by far the most popular game ever in terms of monthly players”, according to research firm Nielsen.

In December 2020, developer InnserSloth released a Switch version of Among Us featuring cross-platform play and also made the title available through the Epic Games Store and Xbox Game Pass for PC.

Microsoft confirmed at the time that Among Us would be released for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox Game Pass for console in 2021. Among Us is also scheduled to hit PlayStation consoles this year.

The title was recently given away as part of the Epic Games Store’s weekly free game promotion.
