Amazon’s New World has been delayed for a fourth time, just weeks before its planned release
The game will now launch in late September
Amazon Games has delayed its MMO New World for the fourth time.
The game was originally scheduled to launch last May before being delayed to August 2020, then early 2021, and more recently August 31.
It will now launch on September 28, Amazon said on Wednesday.
The decision to delay the game again was taken following its recent open beta, which attracted over one million players, according to its developer.

“We want New World’s launch to be a smooth and fun experience for all players, and that means making some improvements based on what you encountered in the closed beta,” said the New World team.
“So we’re going to take a few extra weeks to smash bugs, improve stability, and polish the game.”
It added: “This was not an easy decision to make. We know this isn’t the first time we’ve changed our launch date in pursuit of quality, and that it can be disappointing to wait a bit longer. But we want to be sure we deliver you the best quality game possible at launch.”
Twitch owner Amazon is hoping New World will prove to be its first hit game.
Development of the company’s team-based shooter Crucible officially ceased in October 2020, just five months after the game’s launch, following its struggle to attract a significant player base.
More recently Amazon cancelled a Lord of the Rings MMO, reportedly because of a dispute with Tencent, the parent company of the title’s co-developer Athlon Games.
