Amazon’s Fallout TV show is coming in 2024 and takes place in Los Angeles

Bethesda and Amazon have confirmed that the Fallout TV show will be released in 2024 and is set in Los Angeles.

Amazon released the poster below to coincide with the showing of a Fallout trailer at Gamescom.

The teaser, which aired following a Starfield presentation, won’t be publicly released, but Bethesda’s Todd Howard said bigger looks at the show will be coming soon, according to attendees including GamesRadar.

Update

The teaser has leaked online via blurry mobile phone footage captured by an attendee.

The teaser reportedly featured marching Brotherhood of Steel soldiers, a shootout in a western-inspired town, and a woman emerging from a vault for the first time.

“One of the movies which inspired Starfield is the movie Interstellar, written by Jonathan Nolan – he goes by Jonah,” said Howard. “I got to know Jonah, and I always wanted to make a Fallout TV show. So, I talked to Jonah about it and we have been making the Fallout TV show that’s coming, and we thought we would give you a sneak peek.”

Fallout debuted in 1997 and the most recent game in the series was 2018’s online multiplayer title Fallout 76. Season 14 of the title, Fight for Freedom, launched on Tuesday.

The last mainline series entry, 2015’s Fallout 4, is also its best-selling one, having shipped 12 million copies worldwide for launch day alone, according to its publisher.

Bethesda said last year that Fallout 4 would be getting a free current-gen upgrade in 2023. The update, which will be coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC,  will include a number of new features for improved performance.

Asked about its progress this month, Bethesda’s head of publishing Pete Hines said the company currently had its hands full with Starfield, which will be released on September 6 following a couple of delays.

“Dunno if you heard but we are shipping a new game in 3 weeks. Bit of a priority. When we have an update, we will share it,” he wrote.

Howard reiterated last year that Fallout 5 is behind Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 in the developer’s production queue.
