A remaster of Alan Wake could be coming to the Epic Games Store, as could Final Fantasy 7 Remake, according to a site tracker.

The EpicData tracker, which searches for changes and new additions to the Epic Games Store database, noticed that alterations were made on Thursday to an item codenamed ‘Heron’.

The metadata for Heron, which is owned by Remedy Entertainment, references a cloud save folder path that reads “{UserDir}/Remedy/AlanWakeRemastered/”.

A listing for Final Fantasy 7 Remake was also spotted on the database listed under the codename ‘Pineapple’.

The game’s 12-month PlayStation exclusivity period ended in April 2021, although plans to bring the title to other platforms haven’t been announced.

Square Enix‘s Kingdom Hearts series was made available on PC for the first time as an Epic Games Store exclusive in March.

VGC has contacted Epic Games for comment on the Alan Wake and Final Fantasy product listings.

Control studio Remedy announced in March 2020 that it had signed publishing agreements with Epic Games for its next two unannounced titles.

The first project in the deal was a “AAA multi-platform game” already in pre-production, the company said, while the second was described as a “smaller-scale” project set in the same franchise.

GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb claimed in March that one of the two games was going to be Alan Wake 2.

“I’ve heard that Remedy is going to be making Alan Wake 2 with Epic,” he said during a Twitch stream. “It should kind of be the follow-up that fans of that series want.

“There was a bidding war, but Epic had the best publishing deal, and so Alan Wake 2, it seems like it’s coming.

“I don’t know exactly when they’ll announce it, but this is what I’ve heard, and I figured that you guys could hear it here first.”

“Remedy’s AAA game project with Epic Games is soon moving into full production, and the second, smaller-scale game continues in full production mode,” the developer confirmed in a business review published this May.

Alan Wake is an action-adventure game released for Xbox 360 and PC in 2010. It follows a best-selling thriller novelist as he tried to uncover the mystery behind his wife’s disappearance, all while experiencing events from his latest book which he cannot remember writing.

Remedy acquired the Alan Wake publishing rights from original publisher Microsoft in July 2019, having already owned the IP rights.

The studio’s creative director Sam Lake subsequently revealed he’d like to make an Alan Wake sequel.
