Alan Wake 2’s Old Gods of Asgard enter global top 10, following Game Awards performance

Old Gods of Asgard, the fictional heavy metal band from Alan Wake 2, has entered the iTunes global top 10 album charts.

The band’s album Rebirth: Greatest Hits is 10th in the chart, behind Coldplay’s Ghost Stories and The Very Best of the Pogues.

Old Gods of Asgard are ‘played’ by Finnish band Poets of the Fall, who released the Rebirth: Greatest Hits album under their Alan Wake 2 alter-egos on December 8.

The album’s initial chart success will likely have been helped by the band’s performance during The Game Awards, where they played live as Old Gods of Asgard for the first time.

While 2023 viewership figures haven’t yet been shared, last year’s event attracted an estimated 103 million global live streams, according to organisers.

Poets of the Fall is a popular band in its own right in its native Finland, with all nine of their albums released to date making it to the top 3 in the Finnish album charts (six of which reached number 1).

The band has also been a frequent collaborator with Alan Wake 2 developer Remedy Games in the past, having written and performed the ending theme from Max Payne 2 in 2003.

It also supplied five tracks for use in the first Alan Wake, its sequel Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, and Remedy’s Control.

The New Game Plus mode for Alan Wake 2 is released today, as part of an update called The Final Draft which also adds a new Nightmare difficulty level, and a new ending to the game’s story, with fresh lore discoverable in the form of videos and manuscript pages.

Remedy is also working on two paid Alan Wake 2 expansions. The first, Night Springs, is currently scheduled to be released in late spring 2024, while the second, The Lakehouse, has yet to receive a release window.
