Alan Wake 2 was built for 30fps but will have a ‘solid’ Performance mode, Remedy says
Remedy's next major release is Alan Wake 2, out on October 27

The console versions of Alan Wake 2 will have a Performance mode with an increased frame rate, despite originally being designed to run at 30 frames per second.

Remedy‘s communications director Thomas Puha explained on Twitter that while the game is intended to be a 30fps experience, there will be an option to increase the frame rate.

“I’m glad to say that Alan Wake 2 will have a Performance mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X,” Puha said.

“The game has been built from the beginning as a 30fps experience focusing on visuals and ambiance, but somehow we have managed to include a solid Performance mode. We’ll talk details later.”

Update

A Remedy spokesperson has told Game Informer that there will be no Performance mode for Alan Wake 2 on Xbox Series S.

A follower asked if this meant Performance mode would be locked at 60fps with graphical detail reduced to compensate, or would simply have an unlocked frame rate that aims for 60fps in the best case scenario.

“Still tweaking that,” Puha replied.

Previously scheduled to launch on October 17, Alan Wake 2 will now be released on October 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via the Epic Games Store.

Remedy decided to hold the game back for 10 days so it wouldn’t clash with other big October releases such as Super Mario Bros Wonder and Spider-Man 2.

The game’s delay was originally going to place its release just two days after another high-profile survival horror game, a reboot of Alone in the Dark.

However, earlier this month THQ Nordic announced that Alone in the Dark had been delayed until January 2024, also to avoid the busy October release schedule.
