AEW Fight Forever may be on Xbox Game Pass on day one, it’s claimed

AEW Fight Forever could reportedly be coming to Xbox Game Pass on its day of release.

Wrestlezone claims that, according to a number of its sources, the upcoming THQ Nordic wrestling title will be available on Xbox’s subscription service on day one.

If the claim is true, it’s not yet clear when it will be officially announced, nor is it clear whether the game is set to be delayed.

Update

The AEW Games Twitter account has said it doesn’t currently anticipate the game being part of any monthly gaming subscription services, and that more news about the title will be revealed in an official update on November 19.

AEW commentator Excalibur previously noted during an episode of AEW After Dark that the game was aiming for a ‘Fall’ release, but unless a surprise release is planned within the next month it appears this may slip to 2023.

An Amazon listing for the game simply has ‘December 31’ as a release date, which is almost certainly a placeholder.

The debut video game for the upstart rival to WWE is being developed by Yuke’s, the Japanese studio previously responsible for the WWE Smackdown / WWE 2K series from 2000 to 2018.

Yuke’s confirmed last year that it was working on a new “best in class” console game for AEW. During the game’s announcement, it was revealed that genre luminary Hideyuki Iwashita, the director of classic fighting games WWF No Mercy and Def Jam Vendetta, would also be involved in the AEW title.

Iwashita’s influence can be seen in most of the gameplay footage shown to date, which looks more like a modern version of WWF No Mercy rather than recent Yuke’s WWE games.

It was also confirmed last year that the late Owen Hart, who died in an accident at a WWF show in 1999, will make a posthumous appearance as a playable wrestler in the AEW game, as part of a partnership with the non-profit charity the Owen Hart Foundation.
