Activision says it has banned 6,000 Call of Duty accounts following a spike in cheating reports
Game code for limited-time perks like super speed has also been disabled
Activision has launched a new Call of Duty ban wave following reports of rampant cheating in Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone.
Following “a spike in cheating reports within the community”, the publisher said it banned over 6,000 accounts for cheating and hacking over a five-day period in mid-February.
In order to combat recent issues, Activision said it has disabled game code for limited-time perks like super speed and is currently testing additional security updates.
“As part of ongoing security updates, a single telemetry system was taken offline for upgrades over the weekend,” it said. “This action resulted in cheat developers claiming RICOCHET Anti-Cheat was offline. It was not.
“As a result of monitoring activity over the weekend and the purposeful reactivation of this upgraded system, #TeamRICOCHET was able to identify and ban over 6000 accounts for cheating and hacking from February 16 – February 20.
“Our team continues to work on security updates for issues across various modes in Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare III.”

Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 2 launched in early February.
It introduced three brand-new 6v6 multiplayer maps, a new War map, another Zombies story mission, the return of Resurgence map Fortune’s Keep in Warzone, and a Walking Dead crossover.
