A Space Invaders Forever special edition is coming to Switch this year

A special edition of Space Invaders Forever will be released on Switch later this year.

ININ Games will be releasing the deluxe boxed set of the game in North America and Europe, which will include the game itself and a number of physical collectibles.

Rather than offering the original arcade Space Invaders games, Space Invaders Forever contains three of the series’ more modern entries – Space Invaders Extreme (2008), Space Invaders Gigamax 4 SE (2018) and Arkanoid vs Space Invaders (2017).

The game will be bundled in a box containing the following physical items:

• Rubber keychain
• A3 poster
• Invader pin
• 4x outdoor stickers
• Invader card
• Notepad
• Postcard set
• Mini art plate

Space Invaders Extreme was originally released on the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP in 2008, before coming to Xbox Live Arcade the following year and Steam in 2018.

It’s a psychedelic take on the arcade original with a variety of screen-filling power-ups and sound effects that trigger to the beat of its electronic dance soundtrack.

Space Invaders Gigamax 4 SE was originally released in 2018 as a special creation that was only playable at certain events.

Designed to celebrate the series’ 40th anniversary, it was originally a large version of Space Invaders that was playable by 10 players simultaneously, but the Switch version reduces this to four players.

Arkanoid vs Space Invaders was released on iOS and Android in 2017 and combines two of Taito‘s most iconic series.

Players control the Vaus spacecraft from Arkanoid and use it to bat a ball against blocks and Space Invaders aliens, while characters from other Taito games like Bubble Bobble, The New Zealand Story and Chase HQ appear.
