A Smash Bros edition Switch OLED is coming to the US for Black Friday
It brings back the previous Smash Bros Special Edition Joy-Con design, but not the dock
A new Nintendo Switch OLED bundle with a Super Smash Bros Ultimate design is being released in the US for Black Friday.
The new bundle, which will be made available on the My Nintendo store and select retailers, contains the Switch OLED console itself, a digital download code for Super Smash Bros Ultimate and three months of Nintendo Switch Online.
The new OLED console bundle, which is part of a wider selection of Nintendo Black Friday deals, will go on sale from November 19 and will cost $349.99, a total saving of $67.98.
Perhaps most notably, the console’s Joy-Con design is a reprint from a previous special edition Smash Bros Switch console that was released five years ago.
That edition, which was released on November 16, 2018, included Joy-Con controllers with the Smash Bros symbol on it as well as a dock showing numerous Smash Bros characters.
This new edition has the same Joy-Con controller design, but the dock remains untouched and appears to be a standard dock like the one included with the Neon Blue and Neon Red Switch OLED.
Nintendo wouldn’t have been able to simply include the previous Smash Bros dock with this new bundle, because the Switch OLED uses a slightly different dock.
While the OLED is still compatible with the old dock, the redesigned dock is designed with the OLED in mind and adds an ethernet port for a wired online connection.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate is now the best selling fighting game of all time, having sold 31.77 million copies as of June 30, 2023.
It’s also the third best-selling Switch game, behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (55.46 million copies) and Animal Crossing: New Horizons (42.79 million).
