A remake of Epic Mickey is coming to the Switch

An “enhanced remake” of Epic Mickey is coming to Switch this year.

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed was shown during the latest Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, with publisher THQ Nordic promising improvements to the game’s graphics and other new features.

Epic Mickey was originally released in 2010 as a Wii exclusive, and offered a darker take on a Mickey Mouse story, directed by Deus Ex creator Warren Spector.

Update

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed will also be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2024.

In it, Mickey visits the Wasteland, where forgotten Disney characters live. It also marked the return of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, a former Walt Disney creation whose IP had only just returned to the company.

“Join Mickey Mouse on a colourful adventure as he traverses Wasteland, a world inspired by Disney classic stories,” Nintendo‘s description of the remake reads.

“Play the 2010 classic along with a variety of upgrades in this enhanced remake of the action-adventure 3D platformer originally released on Wii.

“Along with updated graphics and other improvements, Mickey Mouse’s abilities have been improved with a whole new set of skills and more.

“For fans of the original and new fans alike, get ready for an adventure of truly ‘epic’ proportions when Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed launches on Nintendo Switch this year.”

It’s not yet known if the game will be released on other formats, or will remain a Nintendo exclusive like the original version.

The sequel, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, wasn’t exclusive to Nintendo consoles – it was released on Wii, Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Vita.
