A PlayStation State of Play broadcast could happen next month, it’s claimed
A mid-generation, more powerful PlayStation 5 is expected to be annouced soon
Sony could hold a State of Play presentation in September, it’s been claimed.
According to Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, who previously accurately reported on Sony’s last broadcast, the company will hold a State of Play presentation soon.
“There is probably going to be a PlayStation State of Play, not a Showcase, by the end of September,” Grubb said on Game Mess Mornings.
“It’s probably going to be late next month, September.”
In the past, PlayStation’s State of Play presentations have been lower-stakes affairs during which third-party titles that Sony has marketing partnerships with, as well as indie titles, are shown off.
Larger titles do sometimes appear at these shows, but it’s not the PlayStation Showcase-style event in which the company lays out its next slate of exclusive blockbusters.
The last State of Play took place in May and showed such titles as Astro Bot, Concord, Dynasty Warriors Origins, Monster Hunter Wilds and the PC version of God of War Ragnarok.
It’s expected that a ‘PlayStation 5 Pro’ mid-generation console refresh will be announced soon, so it’s possible that it could be announced during this event.
Sony’s first-party titles for the rest of the year include Astro Bot and Lego Horizon Adventures. While Astro Bot is currently a PlayStation 5 exclusive, Lego Horizon Adventures will be released on PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
Astro Bot will be released on September 6, alongside a new special edition DualSense controller.
While currently unconfirmed, a release date for Lego Horizon Adventures appeared online on Tuesday. It’s speculated the game’s release date could be revealed during today’s Nintendo Direct.
