A Nintendo Direct focusing on games for the original Switch is coming next month, it’s claimed
Nintendo is reportedly planning a separate Direct from April’s Switch 2 one
A new Nintendo Direct presentation focusing on the original Switch is planned for next month, it’s claimed.
During its Switch 2 reveal today, Nintendo confirmed that a Nintendo Direct presentation dedicated to Switch 2 would be broadcast on April 2.
However, two insiders with reliable track records have now stated that a separate Nintendo Direct, based on games for the original Switch, will be coming in February.
During his podcast in which he correctly stated that the Switch 2 reveal would be today, insider Nate the Hate also claimed that a Switch 1 Nintendo Direct was coming next month.
This was then corroborated today by Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, who claimed on the Famiboards forum (under the username Brazil) that there would be a new Nintendo Direct next month.
“What a ride it’s been, huh, y’all?” Lippe posted, adding: “Thankfully the February Direct is just around the corner.”
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD was released today on Switch, leaving only three Nintendo-published games currently confirmed for the console – Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition in March, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A later in 2025.
As such, a Nintendo Direct focused on Switch games would fill what is an uncharacteristically empty release schedule for Nintendo’s current-gen system.
The last main Nintendo Direct took place on June 18, 2024, and focused on Switch games releasing in the second half of 2024.
Since then, the only other major multi-game presentation was a joint Indie World / Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, which was released on August 27, 2024.
