A new Professor Layton game is in development.

Developer Level-5 revealed a teaser treailer for the game, which also confirms its title – Professor Layton and the New World of Steam.

The trailer showed Layton walking along a Steampunk-like town, before turning to the camera.

No further game or release date information was confirmed.

The Professor Layton series was extremely popular on the Nintendo DS and 3DS, with over 17 million units sold by June 2018.

The first four games – Curious Village, The Diabolical Box, The Unwound Future and The Last Specter – were released on the DS.

These were followed by two more games, The Miracle Mask and The Azran Legacy, on 3DS.

Level-5 also teamed up with Capcom in 2012 to release the crossover title Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, which took elements from both series.

The most recent game in the series was Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy, which was released on 3DS in 2017.

However, this game focused on Layton’s daughter Katrielle, rather than the detective himself.

In a brief statement on the game, Nintendo said: “In the newest entry in the beloved series, Professor Layton will face new puzzles in a fresh setting.

“Solve epic riddles as you progress through the story of this puzzle-fantasy adventure. Stay tuned for more details in the future.”
