A new mini console based on the Atari 7800 has been revealed
The Atari 7800+ is available to pre-order for $130 ahead of its launch in November
A new miniature console based on the Atari 7800 has been announced.
The Atari 7800+ is billed as a scaled down and faithful recreation of the console that first released in 1986.
It will launch worldwide on November 29, 2024, and is now available to pre-order for $129.99 / £99.99 / €119.99.
Backwards compatible with hundreds of original Atari 2600 and 7800 games, it features HDMI output, USB power, and comes with a wireless gamepad, the CX 78+.
Packaged with the system will be Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest, a brand-new cartridge sequel to Crystal Castles.
It’s an “action-adventure game which sees the main protagonist navigating through isometric mazes while collecting crystals and avoiding enemies”, according to Atari.
The CX78+ wireless gamepad and the CX40+ Wireless Joystick will be available to purchase separately, with each peripheral priced at $34.99 / £29.99 / €34.99.
Six Atari 7800+ games will be released for the console’s launch: Asteroids Deluxe, Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest, Berzerk, Bounty Bob Strikes Back, Frenzy and Space Duel.
Four new Atari 2600+ games will be released on November 29 too. They are Caverns Of Mars, RealSports Collection, Epyx Games and M-Network Collection.
The Atari 400 Mini console launched in March. VGC’s review called it “a fantastic tribute” let down only by its joystick.
