A new Elden Ring PC mod lets players pause the game
The simple mod can only be used in offline mode, however
A simple new mod for the PC version of Elden Ring lets players pause the game.
From Software‘s critically acclaimed RPG is defined by its high level of difficulty, and part of this includes the inability to pause the game, meaning players can never freeze the action to gather their thoughts.
Some players, however, feel that a pause feature would still be useful for dealing with real-life situations, such as when the doorbell rings or someone’s calling them on the phone.
The new mod, created by TechieW, is simply titled Pause the Game and lets players press P to freeze the action whenever they need to.
Because the mod affects the rules of the game and is technically cheating, it can’t be activated while the game’s Easy Anti-Cheat software is running, which it always is while the game is playing.
The mod’s description gives easy instructions on how to turn the Easy Anti-Cheat off, as well as how to reverse this when players want to turn it back on again.
While the Easy Anti-Cheat is turned off, players can’t play the game online. This means they won’t be able to encounter other players while they have the mod activated.
Having received near-universal praise from critics, Elden Ring is already sitting near the top of some ‘best games of all time’ lists.
Based on 126 reviews at the time of writing, Elden Ring is the second-highest-rated title ever on OpenCritic with a ‘Top Critic Average’ of 96 – an achievement matched only by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V (all of which currently hold a slightly lower true average score).
And on review aggregation site Metacritic, at the time of publishing Elden Ring has scores of 97 (PS5) and 95 (PC and Xbox Series X/S).
VGC’s Elden Ring review called it From Software’s most vital game since Demon’s Souls.
