Two games based on Halloween are currently in development, it’s been revealed.

As reported by IGN, developer Boss Team Games – which was most recently responsible for Evil Dead: The Game – is working on both titles.

While details on one of the games are still being kept under wraps, it’s been announced that the other will be developed in Unreal Engine 5 and will have input from  John Carpenter, who directed then 1978 original.

In a statement Carpenter, who’s said to be “intimately involved” with the game’s development, said: “As a huge gamer myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly.”

According to Boss Team, both games will let players  “relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time”.

The only official Halloween game released to date is an Atari 2600 adaptation released in 1983 by Wizard Video. Both it and Wizard’s Atari 2600 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre are considered rare.

The series’ main antagonist Michael Myers has also appeared as a DLC character in PvP horror multiplayer game Dead by Daylight, alongside numerous other horror villains.

It’s been 41 years since the last officially licensed Halloween game.

John Carpenter is working with Saber Interactive on Toxic Commando, a co-op FPS in which players have to destroy the Sludge God, an evil creature which can turn people into zombies.

After Saber separated from Embracer Group earlier this year, COO Tim Willits confirmed that Toxic Commando is still in development.

Carpenter, a self-confessed video game fan, has previously said he’d be interested in directing a movie version of Dead Space, but said last year that he’d heard another director was attached to one.
