A Gravity Rush movie is reportedly in development

Sony is reportedly working on a movie adaptation of Gravity Rush.

According to Deadline, the project is in the works at PlayStation Productions and Scott Free Productions.

It claims Anna Mastro (Secret Society of Second Born Royals) is attached to direct the film from a script written by Emily Jerome (Panopticon).

Developed by Sony’s now closed Japan Studio, Gravity Rush was released for PlayStation Vita in February 2012 and received critical acclaim for its world-twisting mechanics.

The open world game sees players controlling Kat, a young woman who uses her ability to manipulate gravity to defend the floating city of Hekseville from gravity storms and monsters called the Nevi.

The game was remastered for PS4 in 2015, before a PS4 sequel was released in 2017. There have been no further releases in the five years since, however.

Gravity Rush is the second cult classic PlayStation series linked to a movie adaptation this month, following Days Gone, despite Sony seemingly showing no interest in continuing both series in the video games space.

Earlier this year, Gravity Rush director Keiichiro Toyama said he would be interested in making a third Gravity Rush game if the opportunity was presented to him.

Toyama is currently working on horror title Slitterhead with his newly founded Bokeh Game Studio.

The first official footage from HBO’s TV adaptation of PlayStation’s The Last of Us was released over the weekend.
