A free PS5 upgrade for Dead Cells is coming later this month
The update will make use of the DualSense’s unique features
Dead Cells will be getting a native PS5 version later this month.
As announced on developer Motion Twin’s official Twitter account, the PS5 version will available on June 29, and will also include a free upgrade for those who already own the PS4 version.
One of the main features of the PS5 version will be the way it makes full use of the PS5 DualSense controller’s unique features.
“Use haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, audio feedback and lighting to take your runs to the next level,” the studio said.
The digital PS5 version will arrive ahead of Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania Edition, a physical version of the game and its DLC set to be released on August 11.
The physical title will be distributed by Signature Edition and will also be “available from major retailers”.
As well as a physical copy of Dead Cells on Switch, PS4 or PS5, it also includes the four original DLC expansions released for the game – Rise of the Giant, The Bad Seed, Fatal Falls and The Queen and the Sea.
It also adds Return to Castlevania, the crossover DLC which was released in March and included characters, weapons and enemies from Konami‘s long-running action platformer series.
Given that Dead Cells is a Metroidvania title, securing a Castlevania tie-in was considered something of a coup for the game.
When interviewed by IGN at the time of the DLC’s release, Konami assistant producer Tsutomu Taniguchi said that buzz around the Castlevania franchise was “really motivating for Konami.”
“We tried to bring back the games that people loved and cherished with the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the Castlevania Advance Collection,” Taniguchi said.
“We also brought back Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night for our PlayStation fans and on mobile, and launched Grimoire of Souls on Apple Arcade to celebrate the lore of the franchise.
“But we know that our fans always want more, and we do too, so this opportunity to have this amazing crossover with Dead Cells was impossible to pass up on. ”
