Patapon 3 update seemingly hints at plans for a PlayStation Plus release

A classic Sony rhythm action game could be marching to PlayStation Plus

Patapon 3 could be added to the PlayStation Plus Classics library soon.

Orbis Patches, a site which tracks PS4 game updates, recently spotted a PSN entry for Patapon 3 on Sony‘s backend, Gematsu reports.

While the first two games in the PSP series were remastered with 4K visuals for PS4, and are currently available with PlayStation Plus Premium, the third entry in the franchise has yet to be released for home consoles.

If the game is headed to PlayStation Plus, it could be announced this week. Sony is expected to reveal February’s Game Catalog and Classics line-up on February 12, and earlier today it confirmed plans to hold a State of Play presentation on Wednesday.

Originally released for PSP in 2007, Patapon is a rhythm-based 2D platform / action game in which players command an army of cute anthropomorphic eyeballs known as Patapons. Patapon 2 followed in 2008, and Patapon 3 arrived in 2011.

In 2023, the developers behind Patapon spiritual successor Ratatan raised ten times their Kickstarter goal to bring the game to market.

Speaking to VGC, Hiroyuki Kotani, who designed the original Patapon games, didn’t rule out working with Sony on a traditional sequel in the future.

Sony appeared to tease a new project in the Patapon franchise during its CES press conference in January.

February PlayStation Plus Essential titles were released last week. They are Payday 3 (PS5), High on Life (PS4, PS5) and Pac-Man World Re-Pac (PS4, PS5).
