’90s FPS PO’ed is seemingly getting a remaster by Nightdive Studios

Comedy ’90s first-person shooter PO’ed appears to be getting a remaster by retro specialist Nightdive Studios.

PO’ed was released on the 3DO in 1995, before being ported to the PlayStation in 1996.

Inspired by other popular FPS titles like Doom and Dark Forces, PO’ed has players controlling a chef whose spaceship has crash-landed on an alien planet.

Using a variety of human and alien weapons, the chef has to escape the planet while killing any hostile aliens in his way.

Nightdive announced its PO’ed remaster on April 1, causing many to believe the announcement was an April Fool’s joke.

However, the game is now listed on Steam and GOG, with players able to wishlist it on either platform, suggesting that it’s legitimate after all.

Update

Nightdive has now confirmed that the announcement was indeed legitimate.

“Yes, it’s real”, it said in a statement. “Don’t get mad, just get PO’ed.”

Nightdive Studios specialises in remastering retro games which are no longer easily playable on modern hardware.

Previous HD remasters released by Nightdive include the Turok trilogy, System Shock, Forsaken, Doom 64, Quake, Quake 2, Shadow Man, PowerSlave / Exhumed, Blade Runner and Rise of the Triad.

In February it released its latest title, Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster, which takes the 1995 PC and PS1 game and upgrades it to 4K resolution and 120fps.

Assuming it’s a legitimate announcement, PO’ed will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. A release date has yet to be confirmed.
