Looking for the best PS5 Pro pre-order deals? Sony‘s iterative upgrade over the 2020 console is slated to launch in late 2025 with more power, and a higher price tag.

When do PS5 Pro pre-orders go live?

Latest update

US buyers can now join the PlayStation Direct waiting room to be given a random spot in the queue at 10am ET / 7am PT.

Pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 Pro in the US will open on September 26, 2024 at the following times:

  • 10am EDT
  • 7am PDT

This matches the PlayStation 30th Anniversary hardware pre-order date and time. You should be placed into a queue before on the PlayStation Direct website shortly before this time. Get in early if you can.

Retailers and stockists will vary by country initially, as it did with the ‘very high’ pre-order period of the original PlayStation 5, with the supply chain expanding to include traditional retailers on October 10, 2024.

Where to pre-order PS5 Pro

From September 26, 2024, countries with the PlayStation Direct service will be able to nab a PS5 Pro pre-order through its regular queues and restocks.

If you struggled to get a PlayStation 5 console in the past, you’re likely already familiar with how the PlayStation Direct service works. In fact, you might even see retailers sell out before they’re even officially up for sale this time as well.

The full list of PS5 Pro pre-order locations will be revealed in the near future. Expect the following retailers to carry stock across the US and UK, with some already having product pages reading to go for the big day:

How much is the PS5 Pro?

The price reveal slide from the PS5 Pro reveal.

The PlayStation 5 Pro is officially set to retail for $700/£700/€800.

It’s a price that immediately sent shockwaves around the gaming sphere: which is easy to understand given it’s one of the most expensive consoles released in the last three decades (and doesn’t come with a disc drive.)

Given it isn’t even next generation hardware with a launch lineup of entirely new experiences, it’s a bitter pill to swallow for many.

The high price point is only slightly diluted by the fact that the base PlayStation 5 has actually increased in price several times since its release at the turn of the decade.

Japan saw a price bump of almost $100 in August, mere weeks before the unveiling of the Pro version. Dualsense controllers also saw a minimal price hike of around $5 worldwide shortly after.

When is the PS5 Pro release date?

The PlayStation 5 Pro is set to launch on November 7, 2024. That’s around six weeks after pre-orders go live.

PS5 Pro enhanced games list

Revealed as part of the announcement stream, here’s the list of PS5 Pro-enhanced titles. These will use some combination of the console’s improvements to boost, maintain, or stabilize frame rates, improve ray tracing, or run at higher resolutions through AI-enhancements like Spectral Super Resolution:

Is the PS5 Pro worth it?

Nobody can really say whether the PS5 Pro’s £700 price tag is unreasonable or “worth it.” Everyone’s financial situation is different. Whether this would be your first PlayStation 5 console, a replacement for an ageing launch model, or an upgrade over the newer ‘slim’ all add weight to the conversation, too.

The PlayStation 5 Pro doesn’t ship with a stand or even a disc drive. They’re separate accessories that’ll up the final cost of the machine to over £800. Take that into account if you’re looking to continue to use your existing physical games library or hoping to save cash over time through pre-owned titles and loaners. At least it comes with a larger 2TB SSD.

If this is to be your first PlayStation 5 console, spending a couple hundred more over the cost of a standard PlayStation 5 can make sense given the extra horsepower. Your first run of exclusives like Demon Souls and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will all benefit from the boosted performance and visual fidelity the spruced-up console offers; but it’s not like the older machine ran them poorly.

Check out the deep-dive from Digital Foundry above to see if the 11 games tested show benefits that you deem to be worth the extra expense.

Does PlayStation Direct charge on dispatch or order?

If the pre-order date is coming up just shy of payday, you can rest easy knowing that payment for orders on the PlayStation Direct website is typically taken on dispatch rather than the moment you place the order.

That means you’ll only have to pay for the products you pre-order as they’re getting ready to ship shortly before their launch date.
