The Wisdom Rod is a powerful mid-game rod with a very relaxed level requirement compared to other rods in its class. And with good reason. This XP-boosting stick–fittingly shaped like a staff–can catapult you to the lofty requirements of better rods.
How to get the Wisdom Rod in Fisch
The Wisdom Rod can only be obtained via rod crafting. Diving down that particular rabbit hole means jumping through the hoops of unlocking the Ancient Archive.
Once the doors to the chamber have been flung open, you’re ready to craft the Wisdom Rod–so long as you’re level 40 and have the required crafting materials.
Is the Wisdom Rod good?
The Wisdom Rod boosts XP gained from a fish by 70-100%. It’s like having the Double XP gamepass applied for free–but only on this specific rod.
Whether paired with a fast enchant or another XP-boosting buff, the Wisdom Rod is a terrific way to grind levels for higher-tier crafted rods.
Take it to the Captain’s Goldfish pond on Forsaken Shores and you’ll see your level increase at a crazy pace.
With every possible XP buff going, a single Captain’s Goldfish can net upward of 65,000 XP. For the average player, expect something closer to 10,000 XP per catch, or more during an XP weekend. Either way, it’s very high for a reliable catch.
Given you should catch one around 25-35% of the time, it won’t take long to hit your goal.
How to get the Wisdom Rod crafting materials
Crafting the Wisdom Rod requires the following materials:
- 1x Ruby
- 2x Mythical Driftwood
- 1x Magic Thread
- 50,000C$
How to get Magic Thread
Magic Thread can be reeled in anywhere and completely by accident. If you’re level 40, you likely already have about 30 of them in your inventory. That’s not the challenge.
How to get a Ruby in Fisch
The Ruby, on the other hand, can only be obtained via Ancient Isle meteors. Now, unless you’re loaded and already have the Rod of the Depths or Heaven’s Rod, it isn’t worth burning your cash reserves on Meteor Totems to grind a Ruby. It’s too risky.
Instead, just play as usual and keep an eye out for meteor messages. We’ve only looted 4 meteors and have 2 meteors to our name. We’re either very lucky or they’re just not that rare.
How to get Mythical Driftwood in Fisch
And we have similar advice for the Mythical Driftwood. Driftwood can be easily obtained anywhere by using Garbage bait. Paired with a Mythical Rod and its 30% Mythical mutation chance, nabbing this material won’t take long at all.
If you skipped the Mythical Rod in favour of something like the Crystalized Rod, it can theoretically cost less to obtain both via Appraisals.
You’d just have to manage both within around 200 450C$ rolls to break even against the rod’s 110,000C$ price tag. And that’s not factoring in time spent appraising.
Attempt it during a Mutation Surge at a push, otherwise just get the rod to add to your collection.
What’s the best enchant for the Wisdom Rod?
The Wisdom Rod is best paired with either Hasty to speed up catches, or Clever to further boost its XP gains. If you want to see steadier gains, go for Hasty. If you like the big XP spike endorphin rush, Clever is the way forward.
