Fisch progression guide – A F2P guide to the Trident Rod and Depths
The Rod of the Depths isn’t the greatest challenge
Looking to make a splash on Fisch over the holidays? Here’s how Fisch progression works, taking you from the Rusty Rod to the Rod of the Depths and beyond.
Our Fisch progression guide doesn’t use Robux, trades, or alts. We don’t even risk fish profits with the Appraiser. This is a free-to-play Fisch progression guide based on our own experiences; including the best fishing spots for cash, XP grinding locations, and the enchants you’ll need to reach the Trident Rod, reach the Depths, and ultimately land the Megalodon.
Fish progression guide – Beginner tips, best XP farming spots, and how to make money fast
Progressing through Fisch means upgrading your rod to reel in bigger and more valuable fish to inflate your wallet. These rods can get expensive and can require spending big bucks to catch the rare fish needed to unlock them.
And while it might seem like pulling in 40C$ fish until you have 750,000C$ for the best rods is the only answer, like a Rebirth in other Roblox games, you’ll find yourself earning more cash each time you empty your wallet for a good upgrade.
Here’s how to go from the Rusty Rod, to the Carbon Rod, and the Steady Rod. Then to the Mythical Rod, Trident Rod, and the elusive Rod of the Depths.
Early game – Sell, sell, sell
Once you’ve learned how to catch fish, keep reeling in the catches around Moosewood with the basic rod.
Once you have 2,000C$ saved, head up the ramp into the village to buy the Carbon Rod.
You can speed this up slightly with Angler quests opposite the shop, but don’t worry if he wants you to reel in a catch from another island. This won’t take long.
This can be skipped if active Fisch codes push you over the line.
In rod we trust
Fisch with the Carbon Rod until you can afford the Rowboat from the Shipwright.
Row over to Roslit Island and complete the Orc quest to get the Magma Rod. This one is good for grinding bait and cash in Roslit Volcano if needed, but it isn’t necessary.
Getting a Mid-game rod – We’re not in Moosewood anymore
Use either the Carbon Rod in the ocean or the Magma Rod in Roslit Volcano until you can afford the 7,000C$ Steady Rod. This can be bought from the Blacksmith on Roslit Island.
The purpose of the Steady Rod is to reel in heavier catches. These are typically rare and valuable creatures like sharks and the Colossal Squid.
The next step is leads up to replacing it with a mid-game rod that can reel in heavier catches.
Time to enchant!
If you’ve managed to reel in any Relics by now, take them to the Statue of Sovereignty to enchant the Steady Rod with something like Hasty. You can use common bait to offset its poor Lure Speed stat if needed.
You can also settle for Luck-based enchants like Storming if you don’t mind using the Shake mechanic to speed things up.
If so, you’ll want to spend on appropriate weather totems and fish in the Deep Ocean while under its effects. This is generally far from an island where the terrain is deep, even, and uniform.
Get yourself a nice ride
Grind in the ocean until you hit level 15 and have the cash to buy the Hovercraft ship at any Shipwright. Grinding XP at the Forsaken Shores pond is a good alternative due to the high XP yield of the fairly common Captain’s Goldfish.
Use the Hovercraft to continue fishing in the Deep Ocean with the Sturdy Rod, moving over to the Megalodon area (or other Shark hunts) whenever they spawn.
The aim of the Deep Ocean is the valuable Colossal Squid, but many other rare catches here will fetch a pretty penny. The base of the Ancient Isles waterfall is also a popular spot. Either way, grind until you have 110,000C$ for your first mid-game rod.
It’s time for the Mythical Rod
With a big chunk of change in hand, scout out the Traveling Merchant until he happens to have the Mythical Rod for sale.
Enchant it with Hasty or other high-value Enchants, or aim for Resilient if you struggle with the catch mini-game with rare and expensive fish.
If you struggle to get the right enchant, grind to 30 at the Forsaken Shores pond. Sell the fish there and you should be able to afford a Enchant Relics from Merlin at 11,000C$ a pop.
The stats of the Mythical Rod might not be too different to your enchanted Steady Rod, but its 30% Mythical mutation chance that multiplies fish values by a whopping 4.5x.
This means you’ll be raking in the cash like never before—especially during any Mutation Surge events.
Getting the Trident Rod – the Fisch Late-Game grind
Your next target is the impeccable Trident Rod. This one has a crazy 150% Luck stat, 20% Lure Speed, and a great chance to 3x fish value with the Atlantean mutation.
While it lacks control, resistance, and the more valuable Mutation of the Mythical Rod, the hefty Luck stat means you’ll be reeling in more expensive fish at an alarming rate.
It even offsets the resistance by periodically ‘stabbing’ rarer fish, speeding up the catch and reducing the chance of it breaking.
By being both lucky and fast, it makes earning money via high-value fish a breeze. But the route to buying it isn’t easy.
Getting lucky
First, you’ll want to get the Fungal Rod. While not great for catching fish, reeling one in applies a Luck IV boost for 45 seconds.
Paired with the rapid lure of the Mythical Rod, you can catch three or four with boosted luck before needing to refresh the buff. Given you’ll need two Mythical and Legendary fish to complete the Desolate Deep Bestiary, this is an easy (and free) buff.
With that, buy the Diving Gear if you haven’t already and head into the Desolate Deep. Fish here until you complete the Desolate Deep Bestiary, using Crab Cages during your Fungal Rod boost to land the Sea Mine.
The rarer catches can take a long time to find. This is by far the hardest bestiary to complete, with some people around us saying they’d been at it for days. Ultimately, most of the catches will come with time.
- Stalactite
- Horseshoe Crab
- Slate Tuna
- Coral Geode
- Phantom Ray
- Cockatoo Squid
- Rockstar Hermit Crab
- Banditfish
- Midnight Axolotl
- Barbed Shark
- Emperor Jellyfish
- Sea Mine (very rare – requires Crab Cages)
Check out our more in-depth guide to the Trident Rod for tips on how to complete the Desolate Deep Bestiary and reach the Rod’s location. If you’re really struggling with the Sea Mine, wait for a Luck-boosting event and get in there fast.
Grind 150,000C$ (plus an additional 11,000C$ for each Enchant Relic needed to have 5).
Jump off the low pier of the Desolate Deep and use the Diving Gear to swim through the cave at the end of the underwater fish corpse. Place your five Enchant Relics into the five pedestals and buy the Trident Rod from the altar behind the door.
Aim to enchant the Trident Rod with Hasty for even faster catches or Abyssal/Sea King for quick cash.
Opening the Depths
With the Trident Rod in hand, you’re ready to strike it rich in the Depths. That means completing the Vertigo bestiary and having a whole lot of cash on hand.
Thankfully, the bestiary isn’t quite as rough as the Desolate Deep run, and the massive Luck boost of your new rod really helps.
Catching the Isonade
First, buy around 10 Crab Cages. Find a Strange Whirlpool and fish on the surface until you catch the Isonade.
Use the Fungal Rod buff and the shark’s preferred Truffle Worm bait to speed things up. You should have a bunch from the Coral Geodes you’ll have amassed from the Desolate Deep.
Or head to Merlin and grab a Luck Boost if you’re sure you can make the most of it before a whirlpool disappears.
I got lucky and found the Isonade on my very first catch long before I needed to. And that was with the Sturdy Rod without any bait. Your mileage will vary. Either way, catch the Isonade.
Opening the Depths Door
With the Isonade in your Bestiary, dive into the Strange Whirlpool to reach Vertigo. Head down into the shaft and continue to fish in these waters with the Trident Rod until you complete the below Vertigo Bestiary entries, using the Crab Cages to snag the Night Shrimp:
- Spiderfish
- Night Shrimp (requires Crab Cages)
- Twilight Eel
- Fangborn Gar
- Abyssacuda
- Voidfin Mahi
- Rubber Ducky
- Depths Key
- Isonade
With that done, the real challenge begins. Check your Bestiary page to mark it as complete, then speak to the little ghost boy by the Depths door with the Depths Key in hand to unlock the passage. You may have to speak to him twice.
Make your fortune
Now it’s all about fishing beyond the Depths Door to make your moolah. Whenever there’s a powerful in-game event, server luck, or anything like that, head straight down and fish up a storm.
We averaged around 50,000C$ every 10 minutes, which makes the staggering 750,000C$ needed for the Rod of the Depths not quite as daunting as it seemed earlier in the game.
But that’s not all you’ll need. Opening the passage to the Rod of the Depths requires both an Abyssal Relic and a Hexed Relic.
Mutated relics are best obtained by Appraising them. Attempt this only during a Mutation multiplier or via a rod with the Abyssal enchantment to keep costs down.
Deep into the Depths
With all those on hand, you’re ready to brave the Depths Maze for the Rod of the Depths. Grab the Advanced Diving Gear (and even the Flippers or the jet from the Desolate Deep if you don’t want to risk drowning on the way) and head down.
Once you’re set, head through the maze, grab the Rod of the Depths, and enchant it with something like Abyssal, Wormhole, or another top-tier enchant. You’ve come this far—don’t cheap out now.
We’ll have a deeper dive on the Rod of the Depths location soon, but YouTube has plenty already.
End-game grinding
With the best rod in the game now in your possession, the only thing left to do outside of Bestiary completion is rod crafting in the Ancient Isle.
Ancient Isles
Crafting rods in Fisch requires a bunch of materials, a lofty level, and a ton of cash. How you approach this challenge is up to you, but you’ll need to unlock the Ancient Archive sooner or later.
To grind XP for high-rarity rods, it’s generally best to fish in the Forsaken Shores pond for Captain’s Goldfish. Enchanting a mid-game rod with Clever or Wisdom can speed this up.
If it’s cash you need, use your best rod and bait to fish up a storm in the Ancient Isle if you need the hidden Artifact, or back in the Depths if you don’t. Aim for mutation surge events to reel in cash more efficiently.
Once you’re ready to open the door, enlist three other players and follow the steps in our Ancient Archives guide. Like the Depths Door, the Ancient Archive remains open forever once you enter the first time, so you can do this step long before you’re ready to craft.
As some of these rods require hitting (and passing) the astronomical level 500 goal of the No Life Rod, collecting every rod is the game’s greatest challenge right now.
What’s ahead
Following the release of the Ancient Isle update in mid-November, the Northern Expedition update on December 21 is next. It’s set to see a new area, bestiary, and likely a bunch of new rods to seek out and enchant.
Once it’s out, we’ll have a guide on how to progress through it. Until then, just save up your cash and grind those levels.
